Meals From The Market Starts Up Again this Saturday

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Network is excited to once again partner with the Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines on the Meals From The Market program, sponsored by Great Western Bank.

The Meals From The Market program, which began in 2009, aims to provide fresh, local produce to food pantries in the Greater Des Moines region. Volunteers with Meals From The Market canvass The Market, asking vendors if they would like to donate any unsold produce to the program. At the end of The Market, volunteers then collect and load donated produce into a truck, and it is distributed throughout the DMARC Food Pantry Network.

The Meals From The Market booth is located at the corner of Court Avenue and Third Street. Market visitors can make a financial contribution to the Meals From The Market program at the booth, which is used to purchase additional food from Market vendors.

Since 2014, Meals From The Market has contributed more than 255,000 pounds of fresh local food to people experiencing hunger and food insecurity in Greater Des Moines.
