Volunteer Spotlight: Jerry Wylie
Jerry is so knowledgeable of our operations that he often trains and assists other volunteers in the sorting and inventory process, and is a huge help to our staff and warehouse operations – he’s what we call one of our “super volunteers.” Jerry is humble, but his passion for service and dedication to the mission of DMARC do not go unnoticed!
It’s a way for me to give back to the community.
How long have you been volunteering with DMARC?
I have been volunteering with DMARC for 3 1/2 years.
What responsibilities do you have as a volunteer for DMARC?
I have volunteered for almost every opportunity at DMARC. I mostly help out in the warehouse and pick up from a couple of Red Barrel sites. I have also volunteered at mobile pantry sites and have done the produce day distributions.
Flexibility to volunteer on my time and schedule. Gives me a chance to give back on my time. Two memories come to mind:
- Stamp Out Hunger: the daunting task of all the food that needs to be sorted, and all the volunteers who come out to get that done in a week. It’s energizing and so great to see!
- Produce Day: Seeing the faces of the people who receive the produce boxes and seeing how generous and grateful they are was very motivating and gave you a sense of accomplishment.
It’s an easy way to help others in need while getting some exercise and spending time with family or friends.
