DMARC Food Pantry Network Hosting ‘Rivalry Week’ Food Drive Competition

Want bragging rights off the field prior to the big game on September 9th?

The state’s largest food pantry network is inviting the community to give back while showing their Iowa or Iowa State pride during the DMARC Competitive Food or Fund Drive.

DMARC is asking workplaces, religious congregations, and other groups to consider hosting a food drive coinciding with the Sept. 9 matchup between the University of Iowa and Iowa State Cyclones.

This past Fiscal Year (July 2022 to June 2023) was DMARC’s busiest 12-months ever assisting 59,844 unique individuals – including 1 in 5 people living in Des Moines.

Friendly competition never hurt anyone… Here are some ideas to make things interesting for the biggest Cyclone fan/Hawks fan at your workplace or congregation.

  • #1 fan – The losing food drive captain must wear the opposing teams jersey/gear in public.
  • Got any napkins? – The losing food drive captain gets a pie in the face.
  • Next one’s on me – The losing team has to pay for a meal at your next function.
  • The longest yard – make it a physical challenge with the loser having to run a mile or do XX pushups.
  • Can you take the heat – Loser must complete a spice challenge of your choosing (hot sauce, hot chip challenge)

The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 14 partner food pantries and a home delivery service. DMARC’s network pantries include Caring Hands Eastview Food Pantry,

Catholic Charities Outreach Center, Central Iowa Shelter & Services, Clive Community Services, DMARC-ket Southside Food Pantry, Families Forward, IMPACT Community Action Partnership – Drake Neighborhood, IMPACT Community Action Partnership – Ankeny, Johnston Partnership Food Pantry, Polk County Northside Food Pantry, Polk County River Place Food Pantry, Salvation Army Clive Food Pantry, Urbandale Food Pantry, and West Des Moines Human Services.
