Prairie Meadows Awards $25,000 Community Betterment Grant to DMARC Food Pantry Network

The Des Moines Area Religious Council has been awarded a $25,000 Community Betterment Grant by Prairie Meadows in support of its Food Pantry Network. The food pantry program ensures access to affordable, nutritious food, while relieving food insecurity and hunger for the most vulnerable individuals in Greater Des Moines, including children and youth, single-parent families, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. DMARC Partners with Walgreens in Red Barrel Program

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) is partnering with 21 metro area Walgreens’ stores, in the Red Barrel Program for the month of June. A kick-off event for the month-long donation drive will be held at the Walgreens on E. 14th Street and University Avenue, Des Moines on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The KRNT AM1350 will also be present from 10 a.m. to Noon with an on-air celebrity and promotional giveaways. During this Walgreens donation drive in June, DMARC and MovetheFood will accept donations of cash and shelf-stable food and personal items from the stores to support its 14-site Food Pantry Network. Woods will provide 50 cents for every dollar donated to the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network from now through May 31, up to the first $25,000 in donations. These cookies are on a mission, so mark your calendars for September 11-24, 2012, when Hy-Vee gives their chocolate chips an assignment they will never forget. The 10th annual Hy-Vee Colossal Cookie Sale starts Tuesday, September 11 and runs through Monday, September 24. For each cookie sold, Hy-Vee will donate one penny to the DMARC Food Pantry Network. Since the Cookie Sale began in 2003, Hy-Vee stores have over 7 million cookies and have donated more than $74,000 in food products to DMARC’s network of neighborhood pantries in greater Des Moines.
