This weekend, we experienced Interfaith partnership at its best at the dedication of Es-Selam Mosque in Granger, IA. DMARC was part of bringing together a group of leaders from across the religious spectrum, to offer blessings for this momentous occasion and celebrate the Bosnian community’s contributions to Iowa. It was a joyful moment that reminds us of what is possible when communities gather in mutual respect and admiration.

As we mourn a string of recent tragedies across the Midwest, the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) stands in solidarity with all of our interfaith partners who have been affected by recent acts of violence against religious communities.

From Grand Blanc to the Twin Cities, it is important we all commit to our shared beliefs around religious freedom. Every Iowan is entitled to the right to practice and worship without threats to their safety.

Relationships matter. We call on all in our community to build connections with neighbors from across the religious spectrum in these moments where it feels we are being pulled apart. We have the opportunity, as Iowans, to rise above acts of violence and be intentional in creating a community of warmth, appreciation, and cooperation.

Every day we have an opportunity to reach out to our neighbors and build a stronger, safer community, where all may gather without fear. DMARC is grateful for the many neighbors who are active partners in this work. To learn more about DMARC’s Interfaith engagement, visit here.
