Meet Rosie

Rosie 768x1024

Rosie has been volunteering with DMARC since helping with produce box distribution sites at Southridge Mall during the summer of 2020. Rosie lights up every room she walks into with her friendly personality and is steadfast in her commitment to helping her neighbors in need. She spends most of her time as a volunteer today assisting callers to the food delivery service hotline.

Why do you volunteer with DMARC?
When I give away my time I want it to be with an organization that is well run, lives by their mission and makes a positive impact in the community. I believe DMARC does all of those things so it makes it easy to give them some of my time.

What responsibilities do you have as a volunteer for DMARC?
One morning a week I take calls for the in-home delivery service and then assist with thank you cards, database cleanup, and other office work that needs to be done.

What is your favorite thing about volunteering with DMARC, or do you have a favorite memory of volunteering with DMARC?
My favorite memory comes from helping collect food at one of the Sunday Cubs games. A father came with his three school age children, I would guess the ages being 12 and under. They dropped off their donations and the father talked about how important it was to share their food with others in need. In the conversation I gathered that this family did not have a lot of “extra” funds for spending on entertainment. The Cubs providing tickets for a food donation was a win-win. The family was able to attend a baseball game for their donation and they felt good about helping others in the community.

Why should others consider volunteering with DMARC?
It is a good community organization that is well run and makes sure that a volunteer’s time is spent wisely. Most importantly though – food insecurity is a huge problem at this time. Everyone in the community needs to pay attention to this problem and do what they can to change this. This can involve donating their money, their time, as well as contacting their legislators to let them know we believe it is a problem and we expect them to help us solve it.
